When digital assets are stolen, frozen or withheld, the first days decide what can still be recovered. Esquare Legal acts for individuals, investors and businesses to trace, preserve and recover crypto assets, working alongside independent blockchain forensic experts.
Who We Act For
- Victims of hacks, investment scams and unauthorised transfers from wallets or exchange accounts.
- Traders and businesses whose USDT, USDC or exchange balances have been frozen or blacklisted by an issuer, exchange or authority.
- Investors in failed or non-paying platforms, and parties to disputes over tokens with counterparties, co-founders or service providers.
- Lawyers, insolvency practitioners and trustees who need to locate digital assets and take action against them.
What We Do
1. Urgent assessment
We review the facts, wallet addresses, transaction hashes and correspondence, identify the jurisdictions involved, and set out the realistic options and what each will cost.
2. Tracing, with independent forensic experts
We instruct specialist blockchain forensic firms to follow the funds across wallets, bridges and services, and to identify the exchanges and issuers that received them. Their reports stay independent, which matters when they are used in court.
3. Preservation and freeze requests
We prepare preservation and freeze requests to exchanges, stablecoin issuers and platforms, and coordinate criminal reports with law enforcement where a report is needed to unlock the platform’s cooperation.
4. Court applications
Where voluntary cooperation is not enough, we pursue freezing and disclosure orders against exchanges and unknown persons, acting through local counsel in the forum where the court application must be made.
5. Release of frozen assets
Where your own assets have been frozen, we establish who requested the freeze and why, assemble source-of-funds evidence, and make representations to the issuer, exchange or requesting authority.
6. Recovery and enforcement
We negotiate with platforms and counterparties, bring claims, and enforce against identified assets and the people who hold them.
What We Need From You
- Wallet addresses and transaction hashes for the transfers concerned.
- Exchange account details and any notices received from the platform.
- Communications with the counterparty, platform or suspected scammer.
- A short timeline, and any police or regulator report already filed.
Scope and Fees
Recovery cannot be guaranteed. The outcome depends on where the assets went, which services they passed through and how quickly action is taken. Funds moved through mixers or unregulated services are significantly harder to recover.
Our fees are scoped after the initial assessment. Forensic expert fees, court fees and local counsel costs are quoted separately before they are incurred. We work directly in matters connected with the UAE, Pakistan and Brazil, and coordinate local counsel elsewhere.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can stolen crypto be recovered?
Sometimes. Assets that reach a regulated exchange or a centralised stablecoin issuer can often be frozen and, with the right orders, recovered. Assets that remain in self-custodied wallets or pass through mixing services are much harder to reach.
My USDT was frozen. What can be done?
Issuer freezes usually follow a request from a law-enforcement or regulatory authority. Release generally requires identifying the requesting authority, engaging with it, and evidencing the legitimate origin of the funds. We assess the route before any costs are incurred.
Do you carry out the blockchain tracing yourselves?
No. We instruct independent forensic firms and use their reports in correspondence and in court. Keeping the expert independent of the client’s lawyers protects the weight of the evidence.
Should I use a “crypto recovery service” that guarantees results?
Be cautious. Services that charge upfront fees and promise recovery are a common follow-on scam targeting people who have already lost funds. No legitimate adviser can guarantee recovery.
